Congress And BJP Swap ‘Aryas’ Before Big Vote In Uttarakhand

DEHRADUN: Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat faces trust vote in Uttarakhand ‘Missing’ Congress MLA switches sides just before voteBut suspended BJP MLA says he will vote for Congress.The Congress’ missing Uttarakhand lawmaker Rekha Arya walked into the state assembly with the BJP’s Ajay Bhatt, confirming her party’s worst fears. She will be voting against the party’s Harish Rawat when he seeks a vote of confidence at 11 am today.

But it could heart from the fact that as it lost one Arya, it acquired another. The BJP’s Bhim Lal Arya walked into the Assembly with Harish Rawat and said he would vote Congress. The BJP had suspended rebel Mr Arya earlier, but he he has not been disqualified so he can vote today.

The Congress had been unable to establish contact with Rekha Arya for the last three or four days, though the party said it had talked to her family and was confident that “her heart is with the Congress”.

Ms Arya was not among the rest of the Congress’ legislators who spent the night before their leader’s big trust vote at resorts in hill town Mussoorie.

“We are a little worried. There are sharpshooters out there and poachers who are trying to poach our MLAs,” said the Congress’ Shilpi Arora, explaining why her party’s lawmakers were parked in resorts.

About Rekha Arya the Congress leader had said, “She doesn’t seem to even be taking calls…we are confident that she will come around and vote.”
